Sara Desai

Yoga Teacher and Cognitive Behavioural Therapist

In July of this year Sara created ‘Balanced self’, which offers a holistic approach to well-being. It is Sara’s aim to help her clients become more flexible in their body and mind and to build a relationship with their thoughts and feelings instead of fighting them. This allows her clients to be rooted in their everyday experiences and live a full and meaningful life.

Sara is a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist and is currently provisionally accredited by the British Association for Behaviour and Cognitive Psychotherapists (BABCP). She has been working in mental health for several years and has over 5 years’ NHS experience working in Primary Care settings. Sara has focused on client groups with common mental health problems such as depression and anxiety.

Her specialist area of interest is in low self-esteem, stress, sleep and long term physical health conditions (IBS, pain). She has also additional complementary training in Third Wave CBT approaches such as Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT).

Sara was initially drawn to yoga in her late twenties and after a few years, it became more than just a physical outlet, as it brought awareness and stillness to her mental and spiritual state. Through yoga practice, Sara has discovered that she is able to lead a content and connected life, and can help others to do the same.

Sara has undergone 200 hours of Yoga teacher training in Thailand and further developed her practice with restorative teacher training under Anna Ashby of Triyoga a couple of years later.

Sara’s classes focus on alignment-based sequences that integrate elements of CBT, meditation and movement in sync with the breath.
