This lecture investigates how and why animals have been exploited in the fashion industry, as examined in my book Fashion Animals. From the contemporary fight over fur to historic extinctions driven by fashion trends, I’ll explore the social, economic, and political contexts and the ecological and ethical implications of animals used in fashion, as well as the most exciting innovations in material technology.

The IPCC report that was leaked in August indicates that transitioning to a plant based diet is integral to saving ourselves from extinction, and the Amazon rainforest is being burned to the last tree primarily for cattle. So VGN has invited some of the top innovators in food, fashion, education, and personal care for a two-part discussion about where the science actually lies, how to live sustainably, whether or not over-population is a myth, and social psychology in a world of increasing climate despair.
